Wedding Chimes, Assorted Crimes Theme weddings are the current rage in Lake Hope and Keely OBrien is the photographer of choice for the socially elite. But Keelys presence at two weddings from which the gifts are stolen damages her reputation in the community. A local gossip columnist, Flo Netherton, implies that Keely and caterer Max Summers are the inside contacts for the thieves. Pocketing her pride and her distrust of Max, Keely convinces him to help her uncover the real inside contact. Together they explore the grimy underside of the lace and tulle world of society weddings. Suddenly, once friendly business colleagues are too busyor too afraidto talk. Overnight, Max and Keely become pariahs. Something blacker than rumors is responsible for the wall of silence. And then, Flo Nethertons body is discovered in Keelys ransacked studio. Her rescue put them nose to nose again and she saw Maxs arrogant Roman nostrils flare. "Not for long, Ms. OBrien."
"Is that a threat?"
"I dont know how youve lasted in business. You havent got the survival sense God gave a goose."
The studio door banged. Max was gone, leaving a vapor trail of fury behind him.
Stooping, Keely retrieved the paper which had fluttered from the envelope and read the printed words, "Turn over the tape or Ill turn up the heat."
The message was unsigned.
