Wedding Chimes,

Assorted Crimes

Theme weddings are the current rage in Lake Hope and Keely O’Brien is the photographer of choice for the socially elite. But Keely’s presence at two weddings from which the gifts are stolen damages her reputation in the community. A local gossip columnist, Flo Netherton, implies that Keely and caterer Max Summers are the inside contacts for the thieves. Pocketing her pride and her distrust of Max, Keely convinces him to help her uncover the real inside contact. Together they explore the grimy underside of the lace and tulle world of society weddings. Suddenly, once friendly business colleagues are too busy—or too afraid—to talk. Overnight, Max and Keely become pariahs. Something blacker than rumors is responsible for the wall of silence. And then, Flo Netherton’s body is discovered in Keely’s ransacked studio. Now the stakes are much higher than the survival of their businesses. . .

Excerpt from Wedding Chimes, Assorted Crimes

Her rescue put them nose to nose again and she saw Max’s arrogant Roman nostrils flare. "Not for long, Ms. O’Brien."

"Is that a threat?"

"I don’t know how you’ve lasted in business. You haven’t got the survival sense God gave a goose."

The studio door banged. Max was gone, leaving a vapor trail of fury behind him.

Stooping, Keely retrieved the paper which had fluttered from the envelope and read the printed words, "Turn over the tape or I’ll turn up the heat."

The message was unsigned.
